Lakeslate Jewellery
Capturing the depth, delicacy and beauty of lakeland slate
Think of the colours and textures of the Lake District, and one of it's most enduring is that of slate - the beautiful grey/green rock which has been hewn for centuries, from which walls and roofs are made - and from which John Fletcher creates the most delicate and beguiling jewellery.
Choosing different shades of slate from Elterwater, kirkstone, Broughton and beyond, seeking out the pieces with rich veins of variegated colour and patterning, John Fletcher cuts the wafer-thin slate into elegant curves and bold angles, polishing the stone until it attains a burnished lustre and a velvet-smooth finish which is quite unique to the touch.
While some of his jewellery remains elegantly simple and unadorned, other pieces are decorated with delicate traceries of silver inlay, which provide a bright contrast to the smooth darkness of the stone, and add a grace which brings true artistry to the extensive range of Lakeslate earrings, brooches and pendants.
The lakeslate collection can be found at The Broughton Craft Shop, where john Fletcher will be happy to discuss the creation of individual commissions to your specifications.
